Dairycon Exclusive figure on Ebay, Iacon Sets for '08 Botcon sold out

A package sample of a Dairycon Exclusive toy was found on an ebay auction today.

Dairycon staffers confirmed that this would be one of the items given away at this year's show. "There's Domino, which is the PreReg exclusive," he said. "And then there's this fellow. He's one of the Raffle items."

That means there are likely at least three possible Dairycon exclusive figures Domino, this raffle item, and possibly at least one more raffle figure.  Dairycon staffers wouldn't tell me the official name of this character.  If you haven't yet checked out Dairycon, or their 2008 Convention, you can do so at www.dairycon.com. or their mirror site here.

The organizers of Botcon are no longer accepting orders for non-attending fans (Iacon Package).  Here is an excerpt from the email sent to Transformers Club members:

Due to unprecedented demand for our Convention Boxed Sets, we have had to stop accepting Iacon (non-attending) package orders for BotCon 2008.  The remaining boxed sets will be reserved for those fans who want to attend the convention in Cincinnati, OH, April 24th-27th.

Also, be sure to check out their other newly unveild exclusive figure, "Goldbug."

This is my opinion only:
It is nice that people are enterprising enough to order the Botcon sets in hope of flipping them on ebay to turn a profit.  I really don't have a problem with it.  But, it seems crazy to me that there is this much demand for the '08 Botcon set.  Last years set didn't sell out nearly this quickly.  When you consider how loudly the fans had been screaming for Thundercracker, Thrust,  and Dirge, one would think that set would have sold out just upon the announcement of them being in the set.

Compare that with this years set.  Prime and Goldbug are all we have pics of, and it's already sold out!  I realize there are many Prime collectors out there, but the '06 "Dawn of Future's Past" set didn't sell out nearly this fast.  If memory serves, it didn't sell out prior to the show.

Which leave only one option, scalpers.  Agian, I don't have any problem with the practice in general.  But, there are a number of fans (in this case not me) who do want this set and will pay for it.  I hope for the sake of the scalpers they took into account why last years set was so popular.  Because if they didn't, they will likely be quite disapointed with what this years set goes for on Ebay.

Okay, so we've finally seen some of the figures for this years 'con. But here's my question: what's the point/theme? I mean, two years ago they had the convention celebrate the 10th year anniversary of Beast Wars, and that was genius; but last year and this year we're pretty much just getting Classic repaints. We've had a few Cybertron repaints along the way, but they really aren't celebrating anything. Or the year before the BW:DOFP they had the Descent into Evil pack and released the first American version of Deathsaurus, a previously Japan Exclusive character, and that was awesome, too! That's what I want, figures on par with some sort of idea, or the first official Americanization of Japanese Exclusive characters. I just felt that last year's Botcon didn't have much to work with, so they really didn't try, and this year's doesn't look like they are really putting too much more forward.

I would have liked to see some figures in the vision of Transtech personally, what with the comic coming out now. Oh well, maybe in a year they'll celebrate the 10th anniversary of Beast Machines and they can do some figures in honor of them and then I'll be more interested. Pre-"beast" figures of Nightscream, Botanica, Obsidian, and Stryka please! Until then, I'll buy the comic when my comic book store gets it in stock...

50 bucks for something so badly painted which you can't even put on your shelves next to other transformers because you'd want to shoot yourself? no thanks!

That's $50 per toy (roughly) in the box set. I think TPR may have hit on the real problem with this set. It doesn't really relate to much of anything.

I disagree with you about last years set TPR. I think it was just what the fans wanted. It would've been completly unnecessary if they'd put Thundercraker out for general release insted of Ramjet. But, I for one am happy they did that set. The set of 6 seekers looks good on the shelf.

At least last years set had 3 figures I wanted. The '06 DOFP only had one I wanted Optimus Pimal. This year I'm not even interested in the Prime. :( At least I can keep from spending too much on ebay.

I'm w/ KW, I think last years set was terrific. This year's set? Well, I think the paint jobs and new molded head on Bumbleb -er I mean Goldbug are cool too. I suggest that people reserve judgement on this year's set to see the story behind these 'evil autobots.' If the fiction is well done, it could change your opinions. We'll see.
