Posted by:
Mighty Maximal at 2008-02-24 9:40 pm

The Allspark reports here that Transformers did not win an Oscar in any of the 3 categories it was nominated:  Achievement in Visual Effects, Sound Mixing or Sound Editing.  The opening sequence of the awards show did however feature a scene with Megatron, Starscream and Bonecrusher!

Also check out this week's edition of Matt Moylan's Lil' Formers.

I didn't expect it to win. As much as I hate to say this on this site. There's not a lot of die hard Transformers fans out there like all of us. I swallowed deep when I typed that. That's just the way it is. I can telll you this, Transformers was my top movie of 2007. It sure won my award.

I've gotta say that I'm surprised that it lost the special effects one. I mean, come on, that polar bear didn't even look real! But anyway, at least Bourne won. I love the Bourne trilogy, so I'm not that heart broken as far as that goes. Oh well. Maybe in 2009!

The Oscars are full of it anyway who wants to be part of that club?

I'm with you TPR, the effects in The Golden Compass were garbage compared to Transformers. TGC won because it got press about the religious right boycotting the film because the author is an atheist. (That was so stupid...) The so called movie scholars then sat up and paid attention. Who cares? The award that really matters, is how did it do at the box office? The answer: well enough to make more Transformers movies.

(Sorry I edited your post there a bit, MM)

The Oscars must be rigged! That or the voting academy members must be blind as well as deaf! The fact that Steve Jablonsky wasn't even nominated for best original music score is a further travesty and grotesque oversight on the part of those who make the nominations.

Transformers' had among the best music scores to come out in years. The best since the original Harry Potter film score.

I disagree with the Oscar's results. Just compare the amount of time it took TGC designers to draw the bear against the amount of time to design (pick one here!) Blackout! And the result is very impressive.

I just don't understand.

They didn't boycott TGC simply because the author is an atheist, they boycotted it because his book bashed God.

I am actually glad TF didn't get Oscars because that would guarantee it was a second rate crap movie as most of the winners are artistic movies that make no sense and have little plot at all or are huge Oprah endorsements. I mean come on, you didn't see much about TF on Oprah did you? Still didn't affect your opinion either. Oscars are meaningless awards aimed at lame movies and foreign films where the Oscars is the only place normal people will ever hear about those movies.
cyberwuss said,  - 2008-02-25 14:24:44
What I'm trying to say there is that the Academy opinion should be considered the same as Oprah's when it comes to books and movies: Worthless :p.

I agree with cyberwuss and Perceptor. The oscars are rigged, it's the only way to get peoples attention on the crappy films they make. I couldn't stand to watch five minutes of it. If I had the money one of those actors did, I'd have every Transformer I could get my hands on.

The Oscars are as big a joke as the Grammy's and The Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. This however is a topic for another place.
Jumpercliff said,  - 2008-02-25 17:49:02
I know, it's a complete OUTRAGE! Transformers was beaten by a film with talking polar bears and Matt Damon. The Academy HAS NO TASTE! (I didn't like the Grammys and Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame crack above.) To quote Garfield in the 1986 special "Garfield Goes Hollywood":"We were robbed! I demand a recount! The judges were paid off! Ripoff! We've been rooked! Someone call Ralph Nader!" I did like the rest of the Oscars. (Who knew that was who Charlie Chaplin looked like old and in color.)

I guess that intro with starscream in it kind of redeemed it some, but just a little not hugely. I mean it would have been so cool to hear TF won visual effects from the Rock haha.

>>They didn't boycott TGC simply because the author is an atheist, they boycotted it because his book bashed God.

Really? Well maybe the book does. I confess, I haven't read it. But the movie??? How could that be interpreted as a "bash on God?" I don't get that at all. Hm, maybe I missed that part since I fell asleep half way through because the special effects were so incredibly LAME!!

Were these the same freaks, <a-HEM!> er, I mean, people who boycotted the Harry Potter movies because they felt the films promoted satan worship?
Perceptor said,  - 2008-02-25 22:55:11
>>>...as most of the winners are artistic movies that make no sense and have little plot at all or are huge Oprah endorsements.

Ha, that's good commentary Cyberwuss. I tend to agree with you. I thought Michael Clayton was WAY overrated and half the other best picture nominees I'd never heard of...

Someone please boicott the Oscars. the voters obviously did NOT watch any of those movies.

" Hmm... It appears that this people is kept locked in a wardrobe the whole year and is only left out for 15 minutes, the neccesary tome to show them the empty DVD cases of the nominated movies and 5 min of edited teasers"

Slashwing the detective lol

Actually acording to the archives the Golden Compass was more sucesssful box office wise than Transformers
C3PO said,  - 2008-08-02 05:03:42
The Golden Compass was pretty much the freshest memmory out of the 3 candidates. It seems that voters have very short memmories compared to the rest of the public.
