Me Grimlock, Handsome Fellow!

Well, "handsome" is a bit of a stretch! Looking like a slightly overweight version of the actor who played Daddy Witwicky in Transformers complete with space suit (!?) and matching ~Roman helmet, that's the toy we got, way back in 1989! Fans <a-hem!> "cheered" for the return of this classic character, now in PRETENDER form. His all new character page is complete with images of his appearances in Marvel Comics, toy photos, character description and bibliography of significant appearances...

What can I say? I guess I'm still trying to get my 'Grimlock fix' while waiting anxiously for the release of TF: Animated Grimlock toy... Slowly but surely we're getting caught up with the various Grimlocks of the Transformers Universe: original, Action Master, Beast Wars version, RID, Energon, Classics... More to come! Enjoy.

Yeah, Grimlock was cool as a Pretender. But it annoyed me how his robot mode in the comics didn't look like the toy. I remember the day I got Classics Grimlock when I was a kid. Good day.

Ugh, that is one ugly Grimlock. G1 and Animated Grimlock toys are much cooler than that one.

Btw, you forgot to mention the Wal-Mart Dinobots Grimlock in that list. The one released at the time of Armada that was a redeco of BW Dinobot/Grimlock and came with Dinobots Swoop/Terranotron.

Yeah, Pretenders certainly were not among Hasbro's best or brightest ideas. But I don't think it's what killed the toy line. Not having a tv show, combined with subsequent sub-par toys (Micro and especially Action Masters) are what killed the G1 line, IMHO. You can call me a Hasbro apologist, but I thought Preteners were mostly pretty cool.

Incidentally, I hope someday I'm killed by life!

If they had repainted the Classic Pretenders (not the shells) for Universe, I would have bought them. I only didn't like Jazz not being able to see over his chest. Never owned a Starscream. But I'd buy them. And those who don't like the toy probably never were a fan back during the late eighties.
