Transformers of 1992

Posted by:

Operation: Combination, Turbomasters and Predators: OH MY!  If these are foreign concepts to you, don't worry!  You're not alone.   Learn the basics in our all new 1992 Transformers Section, now available for your viewing, educational and checklist pleasure!  It was the second and only other year in Transformers history that Hasbro U.S. took the year off.  Thankfully, our friends in Europe and the far East  were keeping the line alive, with new characters and new molds (and a few recolors) galore!

Incidentally, it's now permanently linked in the right hand navigation bar of the main index page.  Chaio!

Skyquake will always hold a very special place in my collector's heart. In January of 1993, I was traveling abroad in college, studying eco diversity of coral reefs in the Philippines and saw this toy in a gift store at a mall in Manila! I was absolutely stunned!

Now consider the times. In early 1993 there was no Botcon, no internet, (almost) no e-mail and thus no communication with other Transformers fans and therefore, no way of knowing that there were Transformers being produced outside of the United States! So there I was, shocked and amazed having seen the first new Transformer I had seen in a couple years. The first *transforming* transformer! I scooped it up and carried through every airport I had to go through over the coming weeks... Now it's a prized piece of my collection. THE transformer that introduced me to the concept of non-U.S. release Transformers toys! Very cool indeed.

I remember 1992. I got all of Rescue Force and most of the small Predator and Turbomaster toys. Oh and they are definitely G1, the G1 insignia on the packaging proves it whereas G2 toys all had the G2 style insignias didn't they? If anything they are the line that seperates the two generations with aspects from both. Never owned a Skyquake but I do own Machine Wars Starscream I bought on Ebay a some years ago and I just had to have Universe King Atlas because I love how he looks. Its a shame the basic Turbomasters never got repainted because those are some nice toys especially Boss.

The 1992 European line is definitely G1. So is the 1993 European line; even though it used the G2 symbols it still used a G1 style logo.

Also, there were Constructicons released in Europe in 1992. These replaced the green parts with yellow, used grey for the soft plastic parts, and used the G1 purple instead of the lighter purple from G2. They also lacked all the accessories used to form Devastator, as well as the combination pegs on Scavenger and Hook.

Like the Rescue Force, they shared the same blister card with no names for the individual team members.

It pains me that the Rescue Force members don't have some sort of English names. I don't mean to sound bias, but I really can't stand most of the Japanese names. Fortunately, Leozack, Killbison, Jaruga, and Drillhorn aren't so bad, but I'd still have liked some form of English identification...

Excellent! That's all of G1, I think. Now we just need JG2, Beast Wars Super Lifeform Transformers, Beast Wars II, Beast Wars Neo, Beast Wars Metals, Car Robots, Micron Legend, Superlink, Robotmasters, Binaltech, Binaltech Asterisk, Kiss Players, Galaxy Force, Beast Wars Returns, Beast Wars Telemocha Series, Movie, and Henkei! Henkei! Transformers. ;)

Perceptor said,  - 2008-03-25 17:09:02
Henkei? Really? The new paint jobs are cool. No question. But the collector completist in me does not need to own'm in order to consider the collection, "complete." They're nice, bu different colored versions of the same character in the same mold...? Buy if you like'm!

Great additions! Now you really need those 1988 character pages and so on...

This is really awsome. And you guys even have the two rarest regular release sets (just put sixliner on operation combination and it'll be perfect)! really outdoing yourself. I was actually hardly aware of the europpean machine wars figs besides the Sandstorm (or whatever the mold for universe whirl is). If you guys want i have some Japanese figs, not sealed but with enough care to look like like it. Oh and Saberblade, you forgot Masterpeice, G1 reissues, kiss players, binaltech, Japanese movie, and encore (and maybe even 1983 diaclone if you wanna go really hardcore).

TPR, when I got my Rescue Force back in 1992, I thought they were some kind of knock off toys because of the lack of name or tech specs. Plus as far as I was aware at the time not knowing of Breastforce, they were completely brand new molds.

I remember 1992. I was a fetus. :p

1-10, you most likely fell victim to scammers on eBay since there's no such thing as an authentic WST Fort Max.

hay i cant affored the big one and my Fort Max was predused by takra
Byrer prime said,  - 2008-03-25 21:56:15
The Rescue Force appears to be nameless much like the Mini-spies and Powerdashers. They should be considered separate from the Breastforce characters. And since you guys are thinking ahead - I haven't seen any Japanese exclusive G2 toys, just European. LMK if I'm wrong, please. Remember that only different characters are to be listed. Some BT, all RM, etc. Sixliner was 1991 and Black Starscream has me all figured out.

Is this what you bought?:

If so, you bought a knock off.
Blasten Blaster said,  - 2008-03-25 23:42:04
That what I bought a couple weeks ago. It is a nice knock off for those who are to far poor to afford the real version.
