Well... how many individual Stormtroopers were there in a single Star Wars movie? The difference between uniformed soldiers in the background of other movies and Transformers is that Transformers don't have uniforms and each one looks like an individual.

So no, I don't expect decent characterisation for a cast of twenty Transformers in a sequel. Most will probably be cameos in the background or show up for a single battle not to be seen again. That may sound bad but then think of how many characters were in the original 1986 movie who didn't get named, a speaking role, characterisation or appeared for a more than a minute if that. They just appeared to make their respective side seem bigger.

I think there will be four factions of TF's. The original Autobots and Decepticons, I think there will be UM's forces, 5 more, and SS forces 5 more. Jazz is coming back so that brings the bots back to 5. Megs is gone, but betcha will be back. Bonecrusher, Brawl, Frenzy, and Blackout are all offline. You got only SS and Barricade so far. I'm thinking that with the pics so far, there is no real conclusive evidence that there will be a Ravage, or Arcee. There will be Soundwave. Other than that, all speculation!

Okay so lets do the math. In TF1 there were 12 Transformers:
D: Blackout, Barricade, Frenzy, Starscream, Bonecrusher, Brawl, Megatron
A: OP, Jazz, Ratchet, Ironhide, Bumblebee
From those 12 characters Hasbro made 112 movie toys in 2007 (including recolors, real gear, authentic, legends, unleashed... as well as all the usual basic, deluxe, Voyager, Leader class toys.)
They made 82 movie toys 2008, for a grand total of 194 (and we've probably missed a few, but assuming not:

194 toys from 12 characters in TF1.
If they keep the ratio the same then they'll make:
~323 toys from 20! (about 250 will be recolors! :) wo-hoo!

Wow, good math Perceptor. After seeing that, I've noticed (agian) that they really like to eat up our wallets don't they? I just bopught Premiums Blackout and Barricade. The last movie figs I'm gonna buy are Deep Space Starscream and MAYBE Premium Ironhide (still not sure on that one). I've already bought Premiums BB, Megs, and Capture of BB. I'm not gonna get Premium Prime or Jazz so my wallet can rest for Animated.

I'm still trying to decide if I want to pick up Night Watch OP or not. I don't have any of the OPs and I've seen premium at stores. I wasn't too impressed with it, to be completely honest.

Where did he go TPR? A little out of context but I was wondering for a while now why takara or hasbro hasn't released transforming faction symbols with the decepticons as megatron and the autobots of course, as optimus prime. I was wanting to know if any of you guys would go for something like that because I just got back from a local hardware store and picked up some new paints, sheet plastic, molding putty, and brushes and I was going to do a custom of one. just a thought. But back to the real subject. If there were 20 transformers that COULD be in the movie that I could choose from it would probably be like this:

The way that I'd like the movies to line up would be with the third of the trilogy being a redone version of the original with the new bots and maybe the occasional twist and turn to the story.

as non-movie accurate as NW Prime is, he's still a great toy! do you have the original movie Prime? If not I would suggest you nab a premium while you still have the chance.

If not the Premium or Nightwatch Prime, then go for the best one yet: MA-21 Battle Mode Optimus Prime

I don't know what's up with Knightwing. I was thinking of shooting him an email to find out, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I don't have any of the movie Primes. Like I said, I'm a bigger fan of Nemesis Prime (despite that I haven't gotten any since Universe) and Nightwatch reminds me of him. That's why I'd go for him, personally. And you're right, that figure is awesome Sabr. I just felt disappointed when I finally saw our Premium version in person. Kinda lacked heart if you ask me.

you're lucky that you got the universe nemisis. I'd kill for that thing! with the matrix and whatnot. I don't own NW Prime because he was just a (as of now) pointless repaint, but if there was a decent story provided to persuade me.......then I might change my mind.

20 robots!? That'd be big enough to fill Monster Island or outnumber the monsters in Godzilla: Final Wars.
