First look at Universe Combaticons (redecoes)

New images of redecoes of the Energon combiner figures who formed Bruticus Maximus have shown up on the Internet. These figures will be released in these color schemes as part of the Universe line, much like those Energon redecoed Constructicons sold back in the Classics line.

First, two Ebay auctions had what appear to be the "Vortex" and "Swindle" of the group for sale. The Auctions say "Whirl" and Sandstorm" due to the seller not aware of their team at the time.

Next, TF08 has a scan of the team's box art, as well as a full body image of the big bad bot himself (scroll down to the bottom of the page to view it). See both of these here.

Oh wow. That's pretty cool. Strange choice for Swindle, I think, but otherwise very cool. I have Bruticus Maximus and he's a great combiner, I really love it. It's actually probably my favorite figure from the Energon line... maybe... he's the only one I display, anyway. I always thought it would be cool to make him a Nemesis Prime kitbash considering how similar the Bruticus Maximus head looks like Universe Nemesis Prime/Beast Wars Neo Big Convoy.

I will pretty much get the set, for when I get the Classics Devastator pack (although I'll have to make a Mixmaster...any ideas for what base figure to use?)

It was pretty obvious to anyone that the helicopters were Swindle and Vortex just by looking at them in the pics. The Decepticon insignia was a big give away and also we knew "Combaticons" had been trademarked earlier. Swindle has a "$" on him and Vortex has a "V" on him. Nothing at all pointed to them being Sandstorm and Whirl.

Anyway, its not that weird for Swindle to be a helicopter. His name and personality doesn't require him to be a jeep but he usually is out of tradition. And Blast Off's personality was that he used to get lonely when he was in space, him getting a new tank mode would have an interesting effect on him. Just because Swindle was previously a ground-based vehicle and Blast Off a flier, doesn't mean they had to be here too. It wouldn't feel right to me if Blast Off was a helicopter and Swindle was a tank (although I do know that was actually the case in Super Link but they weren't the G1 characters).

They also weren't actual characters in Superlink either. Only the torso of each team was alive, while the others were just drones in vehicle mode (a la Masterforce Seacons).
