Autobot Pretender Beasts

Years before Maximals, Predacons & the Beast Wars, there were Pretender Beasts!  The brain-wizards at Hasbro, even comic/cartoon writers didn't quite know how to fit them in to stories, so for the most part they didn't...  Nevertheless, CHAINCLAW and CATILLA made for some pretty cool toys of the G1 era!  Check out their all new character pages, now uploaded in the 1988 Transformers Section for your viewing pleasure!

Yeah, I gotta say, Beast Pretenders don't really make sense... As we all know, I'm the first to advocate for Beast Formed Transformers, but these guys don't ever really look like animals; not much of a disguise if you ask me!

Chainclaw looks convincing as a grizzly with a helmet, but his actual beast mode looks like cheetah. Great job on the pages though.
Curious on one general question though: Was there ever a counterpart to Monstructor? I know that in Victory there was Land Cross to counterpart Dinoking, but was there ever a counterpart made for the original Monstructor?

No, not that I'm aware of.

The armor worn by these guys' pretender shells looks like the armor worn byt he Dinoforce's shells.

Toywise, I wouldn't really call Landcross the counterpart of Dinoking. Because, Landcross's toy was about the size of an Ultra, while Dinoking's toy was the size of a Deluxe (seriously, a puny Deluxe!).

Was Monstructor really that small? So, was he about the size of the Universe combiners? The ones that were the repaints of the Operation Combination combiners?

Even smaller! Like I said, a "puny" Deluxe.

But much bigger than a Basic, though.
