Even MORE Botcon 09 Figures

The Official BotCon 09 site has been updated with a new figure preview, Decepticon Scourge, which is based on the G1 figure Scourge, instead of the RID version. This Scourge is a remould of Cybertron Sideways with a new head.

I like this figure, the head has a great design. But wait-how do he and Leozak fit in this timeline????

I know I'm not the only one that feels this way when I say this...but I Don't really care for the Cybertron series, cybertron series remakes, and re-paints....at all. "Let's just render them different color's and name them somebody different." COME ON!! Actually MAKE Kup, not some frickin' remold of Cybertron Sideways with a diff. head....$$ hungry...

They can't "make" a new Kup. Thats Hasbro's department. All Botcon can do is repaint existing molds and sometimes give them new heads or in rare cases remolded wings or something.

And they're Cybertron molds because they're not allowed to use any mold later than Classics and neither do they use the same mold again that they already previously used.

I'm so glad I can't afford Botcon this year. Not that I've ever gone. While I do like the head sculpt for Scourge and Kup, I never cared for the cybertron toy line. Like I said in the last post, Make new figure molds. Botcon certainly makes enough money. Maybe I'll go if it ever comes to Philly or NYC

Well these arent repaints exactly...i guess they are, but its not that theyre painted differently. The botcon figures have different colored plastic.

Cheetor2: They cannot make new figure molds.

Autobutt: We call it 'repainted' even when the plastic is a different color.

I believe the proper term is "redeco". "Repaint" used correctly would refer to only changing the paint apps and not the base plastic.

I think this may be a new storyline that borrows stuff from other series, like how Animated does. Which would explain how Kup and Scourge (based on the two guys from G1 season 3), Skyquake and Thunderclash (based on the two guys from the 1992 Euro G1 toyline), and Leozack (based on the guy from Victory) could all be in this same story together.

Yeah. Its confirmed that there's no time-travelling or dimension-hopping this time around. The only out of continuity character here is Scourge since he was created in 2005 by Unicron. Kup, Thunderclash, Skyquake and Leozack could always have been around right from the early days. And since out of those, only Kup has appeared in modern day American continuity. They're free to with the others as they wish.

Okay, on one hand this is a spiffy figure, on the other hand I am prone to agree with the detractors of repaints/retools/redecos in that, frankly I'd rather see original molds. This is, what, the third redeco of the Sideways mold? Now, while it is a solid figure, lets see an orignal sculpt. And I'm not talking to BotCon, I'm talking to you, Hasbro. I'm talking to you, Takara. Give us Kup. Give us Scourge. We got friggin Wheelie before any sign of an original mold for Kup or Scourge, how messed up is that?
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-03-03 15:19:49
Well, it's possible that Leozack was alive during the time Deszaras and his fortress were banished into the Dark Nebula by Star Saber and an Autobot fleet he led that day, which was 500,000 years in the past.

As for Thunderclash and Skyquake, we don;t know as they aren't known to be part of the cartoon continuity (well, some believe Skyquake's toy might've been used for the new Decepticon leader "Scrash" during the Operation Combination storyline, had he made an appearance).

Who says this Leozack becomes the same Leozack during the Victory cartoon? We'll have to wait and see. I reckon this Leozack will be to Victory's Leozack what Marvel's Optimus Prime is to the cartoon, Dreamwave and IDW's Optimus Prime. Same character but in completely different seperate universes.

Oh, and Wheelie's just a new Legends toy. You wouldn't want Kup or Scourge to replace Wheelie as a Legends toy would you? I imagine they just didn't have enough slots to do a deluxe Scourge mold (they probably figured that we would use Titanium Scourge for now). We'll probably get a proper Scourge when they finish with the ROTF toyline, like 2011.

Well, I'm saying IF he is. I'm sure he'll probably be a homage to him, but as far as we know, we can't 100% say for sure that he's the same character.

As for this mold, I personally think it qould've been more suited for a "Dawn of Future's Past" version of Onyx Primal.
