Golden Disk Return, Predacons Rising Discussion

Posted by:

Man I loved the Beast Wars era of Transformers!  As we reported back in August, series writers Larry DiTillio and Bob Forward make their return to TF storytelling in this Saturday's episode of Animated, "Predacons Rising!" Do NOT miss it!  Once it has aired, let the discussion begin!  What did you think?  Was it everything you hoped and more?!

Amidst the Accessory Set 6 talk, we've received several e-mails about our Golden Disk sets, which have been sold out at BBTS for the last month+.  We are pleased to announce that a final production run of this set has been made available and is in stock now, while supplies last.

Just so poeple know, these Preds are to be based off the Beast Era Predacons, not the G1 subgroup (nor the RiD faction, nor the single Armada toy character).

Here's hoping it'll be good, considering it's being written by Bob Forward and Larry DiTillio! (I cannot stop saying that! ;D)

So, I've been saying it for a while now, Season 3 has been less than filling, but Predacon Rising was AMAZING! By FAR the best episode of Season 3. Good writing, good animation, good character play, good reference to the movie The Fly, good Beast Wars reference at the end with the Gorilla, Cheetah, Rhino, and Rat! The Beast Wars are back!
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-04-11 07:42:53
Okay, that was a good episode, but a tad disappointing. I mean, when Blackarachnia is mutating Wasp, we see all these tanks of insects and animals inside them. Now one would think that these would emerge as BA's team of Predacons, but nope, only Wasp as Waspinator comes out. So much for the team of Preds that everybody was hoping for. Now that I think of it, "The Spider and the Wasp" would've been the better title after all.

I still enjoyed it, though not as much as I'd hoped.

I am so glad that everyone's suspicions were wrong with this one. I'd have been far more disappointed if she did have a team of Predacons, as they'd have more than likely turned out like the Dinobots leaving Blackarachnia and Waspinator as the only characters who speak. It's better that it's a small team. They did well with the ones they had, so I am pleased with this episode. And I love Sentinel Prime. The scene where he encountered Blackarachnia was intense!
Saberfrost said,  - 2009-04-11 08:06:39
I wonder what happened to the dinobots?
But, it was good.

At long last, after 10 years, we finnally get to see waspinator putting himself back together again.:)

I though it was an ok episode, but as with this episode, 8 transformers are underwater, wreck-gar and starscream's body at the bottom of the river, and the dinobots and constructicons and/or their remains at the bottom of the ocean near dinobot island, how long till the rest of the cast is underwater
Ultra Justin said,  - 2009-04-11 10:37:27
Good point 5G after all that time and work it took to clean up Lake Erie all of The Transformers are just going to pollute all over again.

Y'know, I bet the gorilla, rat, cheetah, and rhino later turn out to be Maximals, and that they were made from those protoforms Lockdown stole, and they came to earth around the same time that the Autobots did.
5g said,  - 2009-04-11 11:14:23
i really think that they are really just animals, not the maximals

is it on youtube yet?
Bellprime said,  - 2009-04-11 12:34:09
Where Wazzzpinator's zzz? Wazzzpinator's zzz broken? Not Wazzzpinator without zzz. Otherwizzze, a good epizzzode. Blackarachnia & Wazzzpinator could start their own group of Predacons. What's Sentinal Prime's problem? Why is he so mean? He should be nicer to OP. OP could wipe the floor with him if he wanted. Or sic Bulkhead on him, if he got too mean to OP. SP better watch out!
5g said,  - 2009-04-11 12:44:28
in referance to one of my earlier post the undersea autobots could be waterbots, and the decepticons could be decepti-cods, or something
hot rod said,  - 2009-04-11 13:36:01
i loved the homage at the end with the maximals, and sentinel was so funny tipptoeing into the base. all in all it was a good episode

Minten said,  - 2009-04-11 14:29:14
And season 3 is just getting better and better. The encounter between Blackarachnia and Sentinel is defenitly one of my favourite moments in Animated so far. So intense, as someone already said. And I feel so sorry for Wasp.

Also, Sentinel hiding behind a tree ... That was hilarious.
Skullgrin140 said,  - 2009-04-11 14:32:28
What can I say, It was an awesome episode! Great to see Bob Forward & Larry Ditllio writing this episode and it was wonderful to see Waspinator again. The Ending however...Let's just say I think we are going to get an Animated Beast Wars at some point.
Autobutt said,  - 2009-04-11 14:59:33
Best ending ever!!
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-04-11 15:14:04
Let me just say that the four animals at the end are just animals. They are not and likely will not become Maximals. They were only there to be more fan wankage.
Slashwing said,  - 2009-04-11 15:26:09
cough!! they themselves said there weren't any chances of a Starscream clone army cough!!and look what happened! cough!!

I loved it. I think it is one of the best episodes of the series.
lord megatron said,  - 2009-04-11 19:44:23
I suspect that the stolen protoforms might have something to do with the Starscream clones. Anyone else getting that same vibe? But all in all, a GREAT EPISODE! My only complaint is that Waspinator was rather fat.

Wow! "Predacons Rising" was awesome. The episode had great animations and yes, I agree, the scenes between Spider Lady and Sentinel were the best...such great drama...excellent animation...you could feel it. And I thought Waspinator was buff rather than fat. And I too am wondering what happened to the Dinobots, it didn't look like they made it out...were they destroyed or transwarped? And did Blackarachnia and Waspinator go somwhere else on present day Earth or to the past? It'll be really interesting if they went to the past...that could lead to a new series.
Starscreamed said,  - 2009-04-11 20:20:50
Just to clarify, I hope it leads to a new series so the storyline from TFA can be continued and not canceled by Cartoon Network has rumored to have done. But, if they do cancel, Hasbro should try Transformers out on the SciFi Channel...they could expand their audience. Let's hope for season 4!!
Agent X said,  - 2009-04-11 20:26:52
SciFi would never get this Transfomers (although early on they did have G1)

but maybe when they become the lighter gentler SyFy they could
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-04-11 21:25:20
I think that BA and Waspy just warped into the heart of Africa.
starscreamer said,  - 2009-04-11 23:47:30
yet another tfa episode that i missed.

Just watch it on Youtube, starscreamer.
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-04-12 10:36:04
Allow me to point out something about the ending of this episode. While it may be possible that they were warped into the heart of Africa, the script of the episode calls that setting a "primitive Earth-like planet". But, Derrick J. Wyatt encourages us not to read too much into the scene:

"I wouldn't read too much into where they went at the end." - Derrick J. Wyatt, http://twitter.com/DerrickJWyatt/status/1500152931

In other words, he says it's not important, so let's not worry about it.
1-10 said,  - 2009-04-12 11:07:16
i changend my mind I now give it a d+. sorey you beast wars fans,I don't like beast wars
Autobutt said,  - 2009-04-12 13:33:06
OR, dont worry about it so that he can surprise us? Either way, lets not worry about it so we CAN be surprised if there is one.
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-04-12 14:12:23
The way I see, if those two show up later in the series, then they're probably not in the past.
Darkton said,  - 2009-04-12 15:44:23
Title was a little misleading. There were only two Predacons (Waspinator and Blackarachnia), and even then, they aren't referred to as such. It's an interesting story, and is a pretty good episode, but the expectations gathered from the title bring the episode down a little.

Also, ending homage. That is all.
TRYPTICON said,  - 2009-04-12 16:20:56
I love that the episode was a big Beast Wars homage. I like the endind best of all! Great episode, makes me wonder if Blackarachnia and Waspinator are trapped in the past, after all they were using TRANSWARP technology!
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-04-12 17:30:25
Yeah, but this series has shown transwarp technology to be for space travel, not time travel.
ZhaneX said,  - 2009-04-12 18:12:47
Best references to Beast Wars were the 4 animals at the end. Gorillia, Rhino, Cheetah, and even a rat. Great reference. But even better was waspinator re-assembling himself. TA Waspinator seems more serious than the classic Predacon, but still, Waspinator's severed head will never get old. Anyway, this episode is called 'Predacons Rising', as in beginning, so maybe more techno-organic bots will come about.

no,no I AM YOUR MOOOOTTTTHHHHEEEERRRRR

saturday was a good day w/ tfa and snl

That's funny 5g, I too thought SNL was totally hilarious! I also thought the public service announcement from the bureau of junk mail was brilliant comedy too!

...
I spent all weekend at my in-laws where there is literally NO internet to be found, (a blessing and a curse! :) So, I'm sorry I haven't been able to weigh in on this conversation until now.

I LOVED Predacons Rising.

- The notion that all Cybertron Autobots are going to be under the control of Sentinel Prime sends a chill down my spine... Wow, what a scary possibility! Can't wait to see how this plays out.

- I'm not exactly sure why, but I thought the animation seemed particularly good.

- The ending was nothing short of BRILLIANT! It's like the way the writers ended Sopranos. Open ended and available for interpretation! Fans that want to see TFA as a completely separate Universe, GO FOR IT! Then, there's guys like me who see Animated as perfectly intertwinded. It's just another chapter to fit into the never-ending mythos of Transformers! As soon as it ended, my mind started whirring with thoughts of how TFA Waspinator = Beast Wars Waspinator, and teams up with TFA Blackarachnia (who may or may not = Beast Wars Blackarachnia...) to become the founding members of the Beast Wars Predacons.

Want a theory of how TFA Blackarachnia could = BW Blackarachnia? Check it! Let's suppose that after building an army of Predacons and mastering the development of Techno-organic... TFA BA gets her body wrecked, in some battle. BW Tarantulas saves and stores her personality and data-tracks and uses THAT as his mechanism to reprogram the first Stasis pod that the BW predacons recovered!

It makes sense right? BA was in fact the first Predacon protoform to be brought on line! So Silverbolt was only partially right. BW Blackarachnia was never a Maximal Protoform, but she was an ex-Autobot! Think about it, she among BW Predacons, was the big Autobot/Decepticon history buff right!?!?!

Y'know what I always loved about Transformers shows? They always found ways to make normal words as Cybertonian cussing. I remember all those Beast Wars shows where "SLAG" became synonymous w/ the F-bomb and $#!T, I remember Rhinox shouting something like, "First I have to figure out what the slagging problem is!" Always dug that! :)

Now, did anyone notice that in TFA
Servos = Transformers hands
According to webster, a "piston" = noun, "a cylindrical part tightly fitting and moving back and forth within a cylinder..."

SO, when Sentinel Prime barks to the jet twins, "Don't just stand there with your pistons in your servos."
This is the Cybertronian equivalent of saying, "don't just stand there with you D!@* (male genetal) in your hands!

God, Larry and Bob are funny!
