UPDATE: RotF: "New Divide" on iTunes and Game Rumor and Behind the Scenes

LinkinParkTV on youtube posted a new trailer yesterday announcing that thier song for RotF "New Divide" will be available on iTunes this Monday!

I have it on VERY good authority that Neil Kaplan, the voice actor who played Optimus Prime and Ro-Tor in RiD, will be returning to the Transformers franchise in the RotF video game!  Now I could tell you who he's playing in the game, but that'd spoil the surprise!  So let's leave it at this: Mr. Kaplan will be playing one Autobot and one Decepticon!  We do have the list of characters, who do you think he will be playing?

UPDATE: also hitting the net yesterday was an exclusive voice-over behind the scenes for the RotF game.  You can see this video here at gametrailers.

I'm guessing he'll be either Breakaway, the Protectobot, the Aerialbot, and/or the Seeker. He was a good Prime (and wasn't bad as Ro-Tor either).

"It's more than meets the eye." Must that line continue to be overused?

I wonder if they'll recruit any other veterans for this game, like Marvel Ultimate Alliance did. It had Gregg Berger (Grimlock, Long Haul, Outback, Skyfire, the Mole Man, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio) as Atumma, Galactus, and the Thing, Beau Weaver (Octane, Mr. Fantastic, the Trapster) as Tiger Shark and Scorpion, and Tom Kane (HOMER in Iron Man) as Professor X. Surprisingly, I don't think Kane has voiced a Transformer at all. He would've been a good Animated Alpha Trion.

I never have actually watched RID any further than the first episode. Sabr, seeing as you most likely know the most about the series, how does it rank next to other dubbed series like armada/energon/cybertron, and would you recomend watching it? I'd like to find more "respect" for my RID Scourge rather than just a cool repaint of G2 Laser Prime.

Personally, Lord Megatron, I think that RiD is one of the better dubbed series, but the issue is that it came out right after 9/11, so it got obliterated by censorship. A lot of things ended up getting cut out of the English dub of the show because of it.

Ah, I see. That would have posed a problem for the series. I never watched the series simply because coming straight out of Beast Wars and Beast Machines, I really didn't care too much for the animation, plus it aired rather early in the morn if I do recall. However, now I've seen the error of my ways and I now care a lot more about the actual plot that motivates the series rather than simple animation distastes.
Would you recomend watching the subtitled version via youtube or the english version?
I've also heard that Fortress Maximus makes a return in the series, that'll be great!
Btw nice to hear from you again TPR, it's been a while.

RiD is one of those series that has had mixed reactions towards it. I personally liked it because it felt like a fun show. It's one of those that one should watch when looking for a fun, family friendly, good time. And while there are times that it seems to lean towards being more kiddie than serious, it's still a good watch.

Just don't be expecting to watch a series that is dark (like Beast Machines) or intense (like the Bay movie) or full of old-fashion cheesiness (like G1). RiD is a show that you'd want to watch when you need a good laugh, as it is full of comedy. Which was pulled off in a good way. Hardly any of the jokes and quirks are disturbing or lame. It's definitely one that the whole family can enjoy (from little children to adults).

Although, it does get serious at times. Basically anything to do with Scourge or Ultra Magnus was serious. Not to mention the final story arc got very critical at times, as the strongest powers of the show came into play.

Overall, it's worth a watch and is full of humor, action, and much more.

Alright, just got back from watching the first 4 episodes. My verdict: not bad! Far better than Cybertron and miles ahead of Energon though, I can't say the same for Armada. Armada was probably my favorite of the dubs because it marked the return of Unicron.

So overall not bad, not bad at all. Nothing too mind-blowing though. I enjoyed the train team and Sideburn's odd obsession with
that red sports car was humerous. Though the voice acting isn't up to my standards(mainly the Predacons because they all sound too alike), I believe that factor can be easily overlooked. Any reason that they decided to switch Kaye and Chalk out for this series?

Becuase it was dubbed by Saban and Kaye & Chalk weren't with that group. Plus, notice that RiD has a veteran G1 actor. Michael McConnohie, who voiced G1 Tracks and Cosmos, voices the Spychanger leader Hot Shot and fellow Spychanger Ironhide.

It's good to be back, LM. This past year of college was a doosey, so I had very little time for the site, especially in the second semester. But it's summer now, so I should be back in full swing!
I used to have a love/hate relationship with RiD, similar to the love hate relationship I used to have with Beast Machines, but as I've gotten older, I've come to appreciate each series for the uniquness. For example:
I love RiD's character designs. They were incredibly detailed and are just so cool to look at. Plus, pretty much everyone was a combiner, which is always a plus. Also, a lot of the voice actors in the show were the ones that I had really come to love through watching shows like Digimon. So, while the plot of RiD was oriented more towards younger audiences, it still provided a lot of great things for older fans.
Except for Koji's hair... I really don't like his hair. Koji himself is okay... it's just... his hair...
lord megatron said,  - 2009-05-17 11:37:20
@TPR: Lol! I know what you mean with the hair. I had a hard time getting used to that. I know what you mean by "incredibly detailed". Optimized Prime was a perfect example of that.
I can't say that I like this Megatron though, he seems a bit too...whats the word...CRAZY.
Ah, Digimon! I remember waking up on Saturday morning and hearing that ever-so-catchy intro theme: "Dig-i-mon, digital monsters". Good memories. I remember one week at school I had that song and the Animaniacs theme ringing in my ears.

@Sabr: Oh wow! I had no idea that Michael was involved. Thats some fan-service right there! As for Kaye and Chalk, I'm actually starting to enjoy the RID Prime's voice but it's just Megatron's voice actor that gets on my nerves.
I can hardly tell Megatron's voice apart from Sky-byte's or DarkScream's. They all seem to share the same "studio magic".
TriPredRavage said,  - 2009-05-17 12:07:35
As you watch more of the series, LM, you have an easier time telling the characters' voices apart. Truthfully, the only characters that still sound similar to me are Gaskunk and Slapper.

As do I. But hey, I still watch Digimon to this day. But now I'm watching the japanese versions subtitled and I must say that they are VASTLY superior to the English ones.

But at least the fifth series, Data Squad, was dubbed in English highly faithful to the japanese version, Savers (unlike the first four series which were dubbed dumbed down for little kids).

guess what ! jazz is going to be in the movie
lord megatron said,  - 2009-05-17 16:26:01
Most often, the original versions are much better overall. There are a few occasions where the translating factor doesn't really yay/nay on the series but most of the time the subs(subtitled versions) are a lot more accurate and consistant to the series that they are pertaining to. I just finished a series called "Serial Experiment: Lain" and whether it is subbed or not, I really can't tell the difference. It was one wild ride, but a rather short series if I do add. Definately the best anime that my eyes have ever feasted on. Highly recomended!

Anyways, back on topic! I can't wait for LP's New Divide to release tomorrow. Anyone notice that the chord progression of the song is VERY similar to "Scorponok" from the Transformers '07 Score? I wonder if that was intended...hmmm........

Thanks for the kind words all...

I actually originally auditioned for GasSkunk and Slapper, as well as X-Brawn.

"Hawkmon Digivolve to...
...Optimus Prime!"
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-05-18 19:29:11
Or as they say in Japan: "Hawkmon shinka! Fire Convoy!"
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-05-18 20:22:46
Also, I do not take kindly to imposters. I know how to spell "saber". I gave my reasons for spelling it minus the "E" many times. So back off, jerk!

(BTW, that was terrible. It was completely obvious that that wasn't me, as I don't cuss.)
