Demolisher & Sideways

Posted by:

First off, I need your help figuring out the ROTF Constructicons.  Please weigh in HERE!

Speaking of "Constructicons," (and I use this term loosely!)  you'll find and all new character pages for DEMOLISHOR as well as SIDEWAYS in the 2009 Transformers Section.  I figured now is as good a time as any to get their character pages up, considering that their big (only) scenes are heavily featured in the readily accessible ROTF trailer...

Demolishor isn't actually a Constructicon. The official movie listings by Paramount list him as a separate guy from that team.

Oops, correction made! I hate that they spell it with an 'o.' Oh well. At least I spelled it correctly on the page itself!

I noticed that (Another) Demolishor was part of Devastator. Also, (another) Long Haul was in Egypt helping Megatron. So, either they were scanned from the origional Constructicons or, were seperate individuals. Same with Ravage. Just my guess.
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-07-16 09:39:19
In the movie, Demolishor is white and Scavenger is red. Scavenger formed part of Devastator and Demolishor was murdered by Prime.

sideways was shown capturing sams parents instead of rampage. maybe this was a generic or animation error. maybe sideways comes back in an earlier script
Bass X0 said,  - 2009-07-16 14:32:05
I quite like the spelling "Demolishor" - makes it sound like a proper Transformers name rather than "Demolisher" which sounds more like a function than a name.
TriPredRavage said,  - 2009-07-16 16:25:11
I like the close ups of Sideways' legs. It reminds me of the close ups of Beast Wars Scourge. They have a similar shape too.
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-07-16 16:40:32
@straightways: That wasn't Sideways. Sideways was killed. The bot that grabbed Sam's parents was a generic protoform Decepticon.

Demolisher could use his second wheel in the movie, and one wheel. What happened to using the 2nd wheel on the toy?
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-07-16 20:07:37
What do you mean? He used both wheels in the movie by doing body flips. When standing properly, he was on one wheel.
Autobutt said,  - 2009-07-16 20:40:11
I dislike the fact that sideways had no more than 2 minutes of screen time and that the decepticons had no sexy car minion...

and from what i heard, "constructicons" is more like a sub-group of decepticons and that there are many of them, which would explain why we see multiples of them in the movie...which is really bad cover up for poor writing
Overhaul said,  - 2009-07-17 07:36:30
Sideways capturing Sam's parents? I swear that was Rampage spitting them out (while Devestator was combined).
Sideways was split in half (with style) early on in the film by Sideswipe.
But indeed there seemed to be some problems with Constructicons being merged yet out in the battle at the same time. I swear not only Rampage, I saw Mixmaster out there too... and was I mistaken or did I see Bonecrusher from the first film??? Didn't Optimus slice off his head?
Another thing mentioned by Sabrblade... how Sideways was "murdered" by Prime.
I am forced to agree. He was disabled, but not dead. They could have taken him into custody. It raised some moral issues for me. Cybertronians are living beings too, and apparently in this film they're treated by the good guys like simple machines. Another part I was a bit of problem with was when Bumble Bee was killing off all the newly created "appliance bots". Well, at least in that case, he was doing it to safe the Witwicky family. But essentially, these are the equivalent of newborn babies!
At the very least I can make sense of the Sector 7 agents experimenting with the Allspark created machines, since they didn't think of them as living beings yet.
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-07-17 08:26:10
It was a generic protoform Decepticon that captured Sam's parents. Rampage just held on to them in the end before releasing them.

And I said "Demolishor" was murdered by Prime, not Sideways.
Cluch said,  - 2009-07-17 08:29:28
@Overhaul

Dont think of anything created by the ALL-Spark as a newborn baby, they are more like Mary Shellys monster... Forced into life.

The babies are that Star Scream refered to as the "Hatchlings".

As far as the Constructicons, I tend to agree with the concept of multiple scans of the vehicle form. However Devestator (and his sub-componets)are parts of a whole so they are limited to limb and vehicle mode...

Think of it being more like G1 Prime, Prime had himself, his trailer and Roller. All under the core control of one being. At least thats how i justify it lol
KilledbyDeath said,  - 2009-07-17 13:24:04
Poor Sideways according to his biography he wasn't such a bad guy.
For Overhaul Yes I saw Bonecrusher too and I thought Grindor was Blackout they look so similar.
Does any one know who the generic protoform looking Decepticon was during the desert battle?
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-07-17 13:30:13
There were a bunch of nameless protoform Decepticons in the film.
KilledbyDeath said,  - 2009-07-17 16:13:34
Sabrblade Thanks. Its funny, while I did really like the film when I saw it I now am remembering little details that either reek of laziness or a rush job that was done in order to get the movie out in time for the 2009 summer movie season.
Autobutt said,  - 2009-07-18 22:54:11
This question is kinda out of place, but when megatron was first revived and he jettisoned off of earth, did he visit the fallen on MARS, THE MOON, or another planet???
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-07-19 07:53:39
The crash site of the Nemesis on one of Saturn's moons.

I think that Devastator is a bit like Landcross in that a certain number can combine together (in Landcross' case in sets of two) or they can all combine together into a gigantic robot. So when we see Devastator combine we're only seeing the constructicons that happened to be close enough to combine. If they all combined Devastator would have a normal lower half to match his gigantic upper half and he wouldn't have to walk on all fours.

Just a thought. I'm sure ILM didn't think about it that much. Then again that would make a pretty cool toy with endless fan-devised combinations.
Jumpercliff said,  - 2009-07-19 18:16:48
I sooo wish these guys got more lines.
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-07-19 20:43:26
I don't see how Devy's like Landcross (aside from being a combiner/gestalt).
Chaos Bringer said,  - 2009-07-20 10:54:05
Well with landcross you didn't need all of the Multiforce, you could combine any two. Likewise Devastator doesn't need all the constructicons, he only needs six or according to Hasbro's toy five. My multiple combinations hypothesis would reconcile Hasbro's version with other versions.

If you're still not convinced then consider this: Takara actually encourages buyers to combine the EZ constructicons in various non-movie ways, similar to what I suggest in my hypothesis. I may have to buy two sets to see if I can make a bigger Devastator.
Sabrblade said,  - 2009-07-20 12:57:37
Yes but you couldn't form Landcross without all six. You needed all six to make him. Otherwise, with just two you would get either Wingwaver, Dashtacker, Machtackle, or some other duo form character.

With Devastator, you do need all the necessary components as well. The Supreme figure needs all six, and the EZ figure needs all seven. Otherwise, the combination would be incomplete and would look awkward (well, Devy already looks awkward, but that's besides the point).

It's basically the same with any combiner/gestalt. It takes all the pieces to make it complete.
Chaos Bringer said,  - 2009-07-21 13:33:12
All I'm saying is maybe the Devastator we saw in the film *isn't* complete. Maybe the constructicons that were shown to have robot modes could have combined with the ones that weren't shown to have robot modes into an even bigger Devastator than the one we saw.

Maybe a better analogy would be Energon Prime/Wing saber. Prime combines with Wing Saber into a decent enough combined mode. If you have another Wing Saber you can combine that with the existing combined mode into an even bigger combined mode. The proportions get a little wacky at this point but it is technically possible even though nothing we saw in the fiction supported it.

Personally, I think the vehicles that make Devastator are all remotelly controled by one mind. Like the three dinosaurs that Magmatron transforms into. But then there's the Bonecrusher clone... Bonecrusher hates clones.
