Introducing Animated Rodimus Black Version

Can't get enough Rodimus news? Can't get enough Animated news? If oyu said yes to either or both of these, you're info for a treat. Straight from TakaraTomy comes an all new Hyper Hobby exclusive: Rodimus Black Version. Images of this beauty can be found at Tokuma-EC.

Based on the color scheme of Shattered Glass Rodimus, this figure is a redeco of the Animated Deluxe Class Rodimus Minor figure. Unlike the previous black redeco of the Voyager Optimus figure, this figure represents a full-fledged Decepticon version of the character, as he sports 'Con symbols where all his 'Bot symbols had previously been.

Whether he's a Decepticon clone of or the real Rodimus Prime himslef turned evil remains to be seen.

I wonder if his story is gonna be anything like the original black rodimus. either way for hotrod/rodimus fans this is pretty awesome. Since there's already a sons of cybertron set for animated this'll be a perfect chance for people to get an animated black and crystal rodimus pair. By the way sabr, what makes you think he's based on shattered glass rodimus? I mean takara made a black rodimus quite a few years before 2008.

The purple paint apps are dead giveaway. G1 Black Rodimus had none of these.

But the original Rodimus didn't have a lot of paint apps either, excluding the face which Black Rodimus does have altered (at least for the eye color). Plus Takara already tends to do black recolors like this one, so I doubt SG rodimus had much to do with it. Although the purple parts may have taken root from him, it seems too far fetched that Takara would just base a figure off a Botcon figure when the black rodimus concept has been used by takara twice already.
