Me Grimstone, KING!

Uber reviewer Peaugh is at it again. This time he's looking at the eagerly awaited Power Core Combiners set of Grimstone and the Dinobots. Not sure on the look of some of the limbs? Is he better than Dinoking? See for yourself. SMASH!

Unified color scheme: Good.
Unique dino altmodes that haven't been used much before: good.
Unique name (Grimstone): Different, but good.
Grimstone Robot Mode: *see below*
Combined Robot Mode: Well...
* Grimstone torso - decent
* Ankylosaurus leg - decent
* Pachycephalasaurs leg - holy cow, that heel is HUGE. X_X
* Parasauralophus arm - leg-claw arm = LAME
* Dimetrodon arm - aside from the head-hand, meh.
Final verdict: A definite improvement of overall PCC line's 5-packs

This looks like a very cool figure. His robot mode is evocative of several past Dinobot figures. I'm definitely seeing hints of Animated Snarl in him, but, surprisingly, not so much of G1 Slag. I do like how his "mane" forms "wings" in Robot Mode like the G1 and G1-esque Dinobots have had.

Though, I don't like how his hands pretty much look like "shells" with fingers molded into them. Proper hands would have been nice, but this is minor quibble.

I've stated my thoughts on the combined mode above. It's average at best, but the unified color scheme is a noticeable plus. And, LOL at the "Dino-Pope" head.

"Is he better than Dinoking?" Is that a trick question? Of course he's better than Dinoking. Dinoking was a 4-inch brick whose Pretender Shells oozed green nastiness. It's kinda hard to *not* beat that. ;)

Yes, the Dinoking reference was very tongue in cheek. ;) Mentioned him in reference to both the name and the fact he's a combiner.

Agreed about the colour scheme and I think it's a case of, from a distance, he looks great. It's only when you really think about the ridiculousness of the limb proportions that he becomes a worry. I'd almost buy them to have a team of mini-Dinos more so than the combined mode.

One more item of mention.

There is a non-TF reference in this figure that simply cannot be a coincidence. The five diosaurs that make up this combiner -- Styracosaurus, Dimetrodon, Parasauralophus, Pachycephalosaurus, Ankylosaurus -- are all the exact same dinosaurs that combine to form the MaxRyuuOh from Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger (known in the West as the Triceramax Megazord from Power Rangers: Dino Thunder).

The only difference here being (aside from the obvious appearance design variations) that the Pachy and Anklyo drones form Grimstone's legs and the Dimetro and Parasaur drones form Grimstone's arms. With the MaxRyuuOh/Triceramax Megazord, the Paki and Ankylo Blastasaurs/Cephalozord and Ankylozord form the arms and the Paras and Dime Blastasaurs/Parasaurzord and Dimetrozord form the legs.

BUT, they all retain their right and left limb placements on the body. Meaning that what is a left limb on one is a left limb on the other and same goes for the right limbs (though what's an arm on one is a leg on the other, and ditto with the right limbs).

These similarities are too startling to be just a happy accident.

For some reason when i see his hat in the combined mode, I think this guy is rarin' to go and consume mass quantites...

...kidding of course. I'm reasonably fond of the PCC sets, and this one is aces.
