That's right! No joke. There is a sequel to the War For Cybertron video game in the works! And Activision is all over it once again! TFW2005 has reported this from its Hasbro Investors Day coverage (which contains a plethora of other Transformers-related goodies, ranging from stuff about TF: Prime to stuff about the live action movies, and more). Mark your calenders for War For Cybertron 2 coming in 2012!!! (actual date not yet known)

Aside from the obvious when/what/who/etc. questions, I'm curious as to what sort of plot storyline this game will involve. The first game ended on them preparing to leave Cybertron. The Prime comic and cartoon are supposed to follow afterward. So, maybe this game has them coming back to Cybertron after the Earth conflict calms down?

Though, if the characters in the first game who later appear in the show suddenly revert back to their first-game bodies, there better be some explanation given. I don't think we'll want another case of "Exodus conflicts with WFC" again.

Or maybe it's some kind of side story set within the first game's events or in-between episode seasons.

Agreed - this has the potential to REALLY screw with the continuity, especially since Hasbro made it cannon. The sequal is understandable - it's the best Transformers game in years - but the storyline more or less paints itself into a corner. It will be very very interesting to hear how this develops...

More game hopefully = more WFC toys. I'm for it! If it messes w/ other continuity, then I can simply toss part 2 out of my "Fannon," just like I do for most of the IDW stuff.

perhaps the sequal consentrates on the bots and cons left behind after the mass exidus from cybertron?

Maybe it follows the time prior to Hot Rod, Ultra Magnus and co. get involved with Optimus Prime and co. Could follow a contingent of Autobots still fighting for Cybertron itself in the absence of the rest of the major forces with Optimus and Megatron's conflict in the background going on back on Earth.

You mean "Hot SHOT, Ultra Magnus, and co." For some odd reason, the Rodimus/Hot Rod-esque character in the games is called "Hot Shot" instead of "Rodimus".

Though, those guys only showed up in the DS game, and since I haven't any experience with the DS game or Cybertron Adventures, I've no idea how their stories fit with the main story in the PS3/360/PC game.

Though, from the sound of your post, Sidewinder, are you under the impression that WFC is a prequel to G1? Well, simply put, it ain't. The Prime comic and cartoon are suppsoed to come after WFC, not G1.

Well...
...I hope there's better support for the PC version of the game this go'around.

The biggest thing I want from the sequel is a cover system to go with the Gears of War gameplay. Fixed multiplayer and maybe an open-ended world also very high up on my list, but the cover system is my biggest problem with the first game. Hopefully they fix that.
@Sabrblade - look up the design for Soundwave for "Prime" and you'll see how silly you sound.

@said - Hasbro confirmed that the Prime cartoon takes place after the WFC game in the same continuity. So, there.

In the show, the autobots have been on earth awhile. so maybe, this is between the game and the show

Whether or not I see WFC as a prequel to G1 is immaterial, its the same basic storyline. All the earmarks are hit, just like they are in every other retelling of the Transformers story. Frankly I just want to see them explore characters other than Optimus Prime and Megatron for a little while, regardless if they call him Hot Rod, Hot Shot, Hot Bot, Hot Snot, or Rodimus Small Medium or Large, its the same character.

While the basic stories are usually mostly similar on the surface, it's the specifics of each that greatly vary between the individual mediums. (like how G1, the live action films, and the Unicron Trilogy all share the same story in a nutshell - Autobots vs. Decepticons - the differences between each are quite evident).

Same goes for WFC/Exodus/Prime and G1.

Then there's also the located placements of each's existence, but that another case.

Truth be told, G1 doesn't logically fit together with itself all that well. Throwing fanservice, however classy into the mix, is never gonna be juuuust right.

B'sides. Does it matter? If WfC enchances your appricatation for G1 or Prime, or heck, both, then doesn't either interpretation have some sort of vailidity to it?

I think I have discovered the sequel. I was plaing WFC earlier on the Kaon Prison level, and megatron said something to Optimus I didnt hear, then Optimus replied "That's what this is about? revenge? for something that happened so long ago?" so maybe it won't be a sequel at all, maybe it will be a prequel
Sabrblade said,  - 2010-11-13 13:36:37
I believe those lines are referring to the WFC comic that occurs right before the game. It was available with purchases of the game from either Kmart or Sears, as both were doing the same promotion.

It's basically an edited version of the earlier chapters of the Exodus novel (specifically chapters 12-15) when Optimus and Megatron are pals at first, then Megatron think Optimus betrays him when the council meeting that they attend goes in Optimus' favor.

It was penned by the same author of the Exodus novel.

I'll have a better answer for this once I receive the comic in the mail (I bought it on the secondary market).
