We have received several e-mails alerting us to an IESB.net interview with Tom DeSanto and Don Murphy, producers of the Transformers live-action movie.  It's pretty good stuff.  Check it out and thanks to all for the heads up!

I particularly like the way they lead off the interview in text,
"For fans of X-Men, Battlestar Galactica, Superman, Transformers or any established franchise it has always been important to remain loyal to the core source of the story. The best way to do that is to have people involved that are true fans of the genre. That is the reason that booming film franchises such as Spiderman and X-Men have done so well, there have been people who have tried very hard to “get it right.”

If there has ever been any doubt of Don Murphy and Tom DeSanto’s geek credentials all you have to do is listen to these guys talk about projects that they are working on or take a peek at their massive collection of comics and movies.

Tom is said to have over 30,000 comics in his personal collection, Don practically lives at Meltdown Comics..."

My confidence continues to grow!

DeSanto starts out w/, I am a fan of the Transformers, rattles off names from G1 to "headmasters".
>dudes listen, if this guy knows Headmasters, this guy knows Transformers!

I also love what murphy says, "If you're a fan and expecting slavish obedience to your favorite 5 episodes from the early 80's you're going to be sadly disappointed." We

This is not going to be like anything you've seen before. We met with Simon furman. There is no attempt to be slavishly obedient to any plotline...
> That works for me! I'd would in fact be more important if this the live action film turned out to be a live re-enactment of "The Girl who Loved Powerglide" or "Ultimate Doom!" etc...

What we're seeing is very exciting... It's like nothing anyone has ever seen before...

DeSanto went into all the heat they took when a early picture of Wolverine was leaked and fans whined about how it's not his original costume... He said it's rediculous. You put a real person in a comic real style Wolverine costume, he looks like he's going to Marti Gras! It's silly. Changes are being made to make everything look REAL...

How much does the studio listen to the fan base. Don Murphy answered very intelligently, to the effect of, "we love the size and strength of the fanbase, and we're doing what we can to make them happy. But it's a mistake to assume there's universality in it...
>> How right you are Mr. Murphy, how right you are!

"There is definitely a respect by the filmmakers for the fanbase" -Tom Desanto

Another sweet highlight: The question was, is there anything you'd like to say to the fans?
DeSanto: I'm challenging the Transformers fans. When X-men debuted, they were as much or more apprehensive about the film as are Transformers fans. BUT when the movie opened, they came. And not only did they come, but they brought their friends, 10+ other people that weren't necessarily fans, and brought them to the film and a whole new fan base and franchise came to be. I'm challenging Transformers fans to out do the fans of X-men.

>>We'll do our best Tom! We'll do our best!

Don Murphy: People are getting so up in arms. Because they see this 2 d rendering, or that concept sketch stolen from the vaults of Hasbro or whatever... Until you actually see one of the transformers transform and walk in all the realness that we want to bring to you. Hold your judgement. Hold your opinion until you see it the way it's meant to be seen. If you're not blown away, then fine, but until then, lets hold on to your opinions...

>> I'm already blown away and I've been recruiting every human being I know to go see this picture... July 4 '07 cannot come soon enough for me!

They have all the right answers. Here's too hoping they're as good at making tf movies as they are at answering questions.
I think that they might have released the pictures of what they are going to look like On cybertron , and they are going to look different when they arrive on earth ... Plus I talk to a hasbro Rep. and he said the toys when painted and all finshed up looked different then any other transformer toy ever made ... but i wonder what the Japanese think of all this hub bub ???

I am ready for a few changes to the tranformers for the movie. I understand that when something changes form T.V. show to movie they have to change things. I just want the heads of the Transfomers to look the same so I know how is how. Also what is the deal with the black stuff all over Prime?
