New York, New York, November 14, 2006 — 1980s pop culture phenomenon the TRANSFORMERS exploded onto the scene again last week with SONY BMG’s hugely successful release of TRANSFORMERS: The Movie 20th Anniversary Special Edition DVD. This 2-disc set presents a remastered and color-corrected version of the animated classic that catapulted the likes of OPTIMUS PRIME, MEGATRON, STARSCREAM, SOUNDWAVE and even the DINOBOTS into icons.
As a thank you to fans, SONY BMG is adding even more content to the special features available via the exclusive DVD-ROM link on Disc 2 of the TRANSFORMERS: The Movie 20th Anniversary Special Edition DVD. Currently this link provides access to exclusive cell phone wallpapers – available for a limited time only – as well as exclusive video clips and behind-the-scenes photos. SONY BMG will continue to update this exclusive content throughout the remainder of 2006.
Upon release, TRANSFORMERS: The Movie 20th Anniversary Special Edition DVD received rave reviews from TRANSFORMERS fans new and old. That acclaim and the anticipation of TRANSFORMERS fans new and old helped land TRANSFORMERS: The Movie 20th Anniversary Special Edition DVD among the top DVD sellers of the week.
Packed with premium features and developed with input by and for TRANSFORMERS fans across the country, TRANSFORMERS: The Movie 20th Anniversary Special Edition DVD takes viewers further inside this favorite than ever before. In addition to a 16X9 WIDESCREEN PRESENTATION of the film – which has not been seen anywhere since the movie was in theaters 20 years ago – three all-new exclusive featurettes with director Nelson Shin, story consultant Flint Dille, Sue Blu (the voice of fan-favorite female TRANSFORMER, Arcee) and producers Tom Griffin and Joe Bacal highlight the DVD. First-time-ever audio commentaries will feature Nelson, Flint and Sue – as well as a special fan audio commentary.
SONY/BMG has also included some very special and rare footage; highlighted by items previously unreleased in the U.S. These never-before-released special features will now contain exclusive audio commentaries. Specially included are the infamous 20-minute Scramble City original animated episode from Japan, a promo trailer for TRANSFORMERS: The Movie and test/alternative/deleted footage from the film. Also on this one-of-a-kind DVD is never-before-released animated storyboards.
Beyond the actual DVD content, SONY BMG Home Entertainment expanded the DVD’s collectibility to the packaging itself. A collectible, limited-edition lenticular cover will adorn the front of the TRANSFORMERS: The Movie 20th Anniversary Special Edition DVD. The company commissioned fan-favorite artist Don Figueroa to create the imagery for this special lenticular cover.
