MP-05 Review

Let me start by stating that I realize we don't usually do reviews as news items. Then agian we don't usually review Japanise toys at all. As such, this particular figure seems to warent an exception. Forgive the lack of pictures. I'm not even sure how I'd go about posting my own pics to the sight. And, I don't belive there is a way to put pics into a news posting. There are several other sights with photo galleries which I assume most of you have already seen anyway.
I just recived my mp-05 in the mail yesterday from bigbadtoystore.com. I have to say I am over all rather impressed. I'll start with many peoples biggest concern. The orange safety pulg is in fact glued in. The good news is that they used only a small amount of glue. I just wedged a pocket knife between the plug and the end of the barrel and twisted. With a little force it comes out in one peice leaving almost nothing in the barrel.
Megatron is packaged in robot mode so that's what I'll cover next. This Megatron is sized perfectly to go along side the MP Prime. There is a great amont of detail in 'bot mode. The sholder and hip joints both have wonderful rotation in a forward or backward sense, but neiter is great in a side motion. The legs look MUCH better in person. In fact when it's in front of you the legs look almost twice as wide as pictures I've previously seen. The issuse of peices poping off is real. I haven't superglued (I'll explain superglued at the end for anyone who doesn't know) mine yet, but I intend to. There are only 4 peices that this is a proplem with both sholder covers and both hip covers. The good news, if you don't like supergluing your toys, is that they only seem to pop off during transformation. There isn't as much die cast as some would like but, I didn't even really notice. The paint is done so well it looks almost just like brushed aluminum.
Now, on to transformation. I read a few coments about how it feels like you're going to break him during transformation. I too felt this way. It's the sholders. You need to put the arm straigt out forward and then rotate the sholder down and out the side. The first time takes a lot of force. But, after that it seems to move more easily. What I found most impressive about transforming mp-05 is that in a very simplistic way it transforms like the g1 toy. That is to say that all the key robot parts come from the same place in gun mode as the g1 Megatron. With that in mind don't even bother trying to do this with out instructions. There are a lot of places where you have to get a joint just so in order to transform him. But, that is part of the appeal of the MP line.
When you finish you have a VERY large hand gun. It's about 12" from barrel tip to hammer. It is too large to beleive as real. But, still small enough to hold in an adult hand and be actually able to play with. Agian, the paint is done so well that you almost can't tell wether it's painted plastic or brushed metal.
The only thing left is the accessories. Kremzeek is cool. I like him. That said I don't know how much any of us will actually play with him. The energon sword can easily be held and posed and looks quite good. The hand gun that Megatron comes with is actually almost the same size as a World's Smallest Transformer Megatron. Both the gun and sword are detailed to the level seen in The Transformers The Movie. Lastly the energon mace. This is a fantastic looking peice. It's hard to make look good in a static pose. The chain is so long the mace its self is resting on your table top, shelf, ect...
All in all, MP-05 Megatron will be a must have for most actuall collectors. He's not perfect, but closer than most of us ever thought we'd get. I definatly recomend picking him up.
